About Alameda Ultimate’s Youth Teams
The Alameda Ultimate program has a Middle School team, named Taurus, and a High School team, named Monarchs. Taurus, our Middle School team, typically has about 25 players split between Team A and Team B for games. Monarchs, our High School team, typically has about 25 players. The High School team fields two teams in the fall, mixed and open and then splits into a Girls/Gx team and an Open team for the Spring season. Both the Middle and High School teams include all genders. The Middle school program focuses on player development for beginning players while also supporting competitive play for more experienced players. The High School team supports competitive playing as most of its players have come up from the Middle School program. The youth ultimate scene in the Bay Area is very competitive at both the Middle and High School levels. Alameda Ultimate strives to be competitive while also honoring the Spirit of the Game. Both teams are supported by parent coordinators and a dedicated team manager (an alum of the High School team).
Practice Schedule and Times
Both the Middle School and the High School teams practice twice a week, usually Wednesday and Friday, from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at Bayport Field in Alameda, subject to field permit availability. The High School team sometimes also includes an optional third practice led by players on Monday afternoons. Practices usually start at the end of August. The season runs through the second or third week of May. The program takes a four week break during the winter holiday period.
Leagues & Tournaments
Both teams participate in tournaments and league games in the Bay Area throughout the school year. Examples of tournaments that the program participates in include: Fog Five Cup, Chilly Bowl, Winter Leagues for Middle Schools, Spring League, BADA Bongo, Spaghetti Western, and California State Championships. Parents are involved in helping to provide transportation, snacks, and tents for all tournaments and games.
Parent Coordinators
Alameda Ultimate is run entirely by parent volunteers. There is currently a core group of 7 parents who support and coordinate the operations of the program. We have a dedicated team manager, treasurer, secretary, field permit manager, and website administrator. Additional key roles are assigned to parents at the beginning of the season on a voluntary basis.
